ಧಾರವಾಡ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ
ಆಂಗ್ಲೋ-ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆರೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಸೈನಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನೂ ಒಬ್ಬ. ಅವನನ್ನು ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡಿಗರನ್ನು ಧಾರವಾಡ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟಿರುವುದು.

ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ
ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಸೈನಿಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಗುರುತರ ಆರೋಪ ಸಾಬೀತು ಪಡಿಸಲು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ವಿಫಲವಾದರು. ನಿರಪರಾಧಿ ಸೈನಿರರನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿತು. ದತ್ತಕ ವಿರೋಧಿ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ 50 ದಿನ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದನು. ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗಡಿಗರನ್ನು 23 ಜನೆವರಿ 1825 ರಂದು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

The release of Rayanna from prison
The British authorities failed to prove serious charges against the soldiers arrested in the battle of Kitturu. The government decided to release the soldiers. Rayanna was imprisoned for fifty days for his involvement in the war against The Doctrine of Lapse'.
Sangolli Rayanna and his companions were set free on January 23, 1825.

ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಕೋಟೆ ನೋಡಿ ಮರುಗಿದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ
ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಚರರು ಧಾರವಾಡ ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಂಡು ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿಗೆ ಬರುವ ಮಾರ್ಗಮಧ್ಯೆ ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಕೋಟೆ ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದರು. ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ತೋಪಿನ ಹೊಡೆತಕ್ಕೆ ಕೋಟೆ ಭಗ್ನವಾಗಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಕಂಡು ಮರುಗಿದರು. ತಮಗೆ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಮತ್ತು ತಾವು ವೈಭವದ ಜೀವನ ಕಳೆದ ದಿನಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮರಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

After being released from Dharwad Jail, Rayanna and his friends stopped at Kitturu Fort en route to Sangolli. He was shocked to see the derelict condition of the fort due to the British firing.
Here we see Rayanna lamenting over the destroyed Kitturu fort and reminiscing the glorious days that had inspired them and led them to victory.

ಚನ್ನಮ್ಮನ ಭೇಟಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಜಂಗಮ ವೇಷದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ
ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಧಿತರಾದ ರಾಣಿ ಚನ್ನಮ್ಮ, ವೀರಮ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಜಾನಕಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಧಾರವಾಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ನಿವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೃಹ ಬಂಧನದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟರು. ಕಿತ್ತೂರ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡರು. ನಂತರ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೈಲಹೊಂಗಲ ಗೃಹ ಬಂಧನಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ರಾಣಿ ಚನ್ನಮ್ಮ, ಜಾನಕಿ ಮತ್ತು ವೀರಮ್ಮ ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಲಾ ಹತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರ ರೂಪಾಯಿ ವರ್ಷಾಶನ ನಿಗದಿಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ರಹಸ್ಯ ಮಾತುಕತೆಗಾಗಿ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಜಂಗಮ ವೇಷದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಣಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

Rayanna, disguised as Jangam (a wandering monk), comes to visit Channamma.
Rani Channamma, Veeramma, and Janaki were captured during the Second Anglo-Kitturu War, and were under house- arrest at the Dharwad District Collector's residence. The Collector took steps to annex the Kitturu kingdom to British rule. They was later shifted to bailhongal house arrest. An annuity of ten thousand rupees each was fixed for Channamma, Janaki, and Veeramma. Sangolli Rayanna visits Channamma secretly in the guise of Jangam.

ದಟ್ಟ ಕಾಡಿನ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಹೋರಾಟದ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ
ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟದ ಕಾಡಿನ ಮದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗುಹೆಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗಡಿಗರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹೋರಾಟದ ರೂಪರೇಷಗಳು ಅಂತಿಮಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿವೆ.
ಗುಹೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಸೈನಿಕರಿಗೆ ಖಡ್ಗ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು:-

ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಭರ್ಚಿ,ಖಡ್ಗ, ಗುರಾಣಿ ಮುಂತಾದ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ವೀರ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ
ಬೈಲಹೊಂಗಲ ಗೃಹ ಬಂಧನದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಣಿ ಚನ್ನಮ್ಮ 2 ಪೆಬ್ರುವರಿ 1829 ರಂದು ಲಿಂಗೈಕ್ಯರಾದರು.
ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷ ಎಂಟು ತಿಂಗಳು ಬಂಧನದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ರಾಣಿ ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯದ ಕನಸು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಾ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರು ಎಳೆದರು.
ಆಂಗ್ಲರ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸಿದ್ದತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗಡಿಗರು ಮಾರುವೇಷದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಣಿ ಚನ್ನಮ್ಮನವರ ಸಮಾಧಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ನಮಿಸಿ ಪುನಃ ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
Rayanna's Heroic Vow
Rani Channamma passed away on February 2, 1829, while under house arrest at Bailahongal. The Rani of Kitturu, who was in prison for four years and eight months, breathed her last, dreaming of freedom.

ಕಂದಾಯ ನಿರಾಕರಣೆ)
6 ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಸರ್ಕಾರ 1829 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆ ಜಾರಿಗೆ ತಂದಿತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ರಾಜರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನಿಕರು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಕಂದಾಯ ರಹಿತ ಇನಾಂ ಭೂಮಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕ ಆಕರಣೆ ಮಾಡಲು, ಮು ಸಾಯಿತು. ಸಂಪಗಾದ ಅಮಲ್ದಾರ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾವ್ ಆದೇಶದ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಲಪ್ಪ ಊರ ಪಂಚರ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗ ಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ಇನಾಂ ಭೂಮಿ ಆಕೆ 35 ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಕಂದಾಯ ನಿಗದಿ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಕಂದಾಯ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಗೆ ವಿರೋಧ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವು
Denial of revenue
The British govern:nent enacted the 'Inam Act' in 1829. This led to the collection of revenue on the revenue-free inam (perquisite) lands previously given by kings and statesmen. On the orders of Sampagavi Amaidar Krishna Rao, Kulkarnı Balappa of Sangolli measured the 'inam' land of Sangolli Rayanna in the presence of village 'panchas' (heads) and fixed a revenue of Rs. 35.
Rayanna protests against the 'Inam Act' by denying to pay revenue.

ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ
ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ಪಂಚರ ಮುಂದೆ ತನ್ನ ಆದೇಶ ಧಿಕ್ಕರಿಸಿದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪ ಸಿಡಿಮಿಡಿಗೊಂಡನು. ಮಲಪ್ರಭಾ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿ ತನ್ನ ಮೈಲಿಗೆ ಪಂಚೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದನು. ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಯಿಂದ ಕೆರಳಿ ಹುಲಿಯಂತಾಗಿದ್ದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ, ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಇಂತಹ ನೀಚ ಕೆಲಸ ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಖಡ್ಗದಿಂದ ತುಂಡರಿಸುವದಾಗಿ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

Attack on Kulkarni
Rayanna's defiance of Kulkarni Balappa's orders, in front of the Sangolli 'panchas' (village leaders) infuriated the latter. Kulkarni Balappa, after taking a bath in the Malaparbha River, ordered Rayanna to wash his dirty clothes.
Rayanna, who was already enraged over the Inam Act, attacked him straight away and threatened to cut him to pieces with a sword if ordered to do such a despicable thing again.

ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ಬಂಧನದ ಸಂಚು
ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ಮೇಲೆ ಗುರುಕರವಾದ ಆರೋಪ ಮಾಡಿ, ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಅಮಲ್ದಾರಗೆ ಪತ್ರ ಬರೆದನು. ಆತನ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಕಚೇರಿಗೆ ಮುಟ್ಟಿಸುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಅಮಲ್ದಾರ ಪತ್ರ ನೋಡಿ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಕಂದಾಯ ಕಟ್ಟಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸಿದನು. ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಕಂದಾಯ ನಿಗಾಕರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಗೆ ವಿರೋಧ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದನು. ಕೆರಳಿದ ಅಮಲ್ದಾರ ಆತನನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಲು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಅಮಲ್ದಾರ ಆದೇಶದಂತೆ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ರಾಯಣ್ಣನನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿ ಒಯ್ಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ನು.
ರಾಯಣ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಗ್ರಾಮಸ್ಥರ ಭೇಟಿ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿಯ ಗಜ ಸುಸ್ಯ> ಬರುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

Conspiracy to arrest Rayanna in the Sampagavi office
Kulkarni wrote a letter to Sampagavi Amaldar, making serous accusations against Rayanna. He arranged for the letter to be delivered to the Sampagavi office through Rayanna. Amaldar saw the letter and suggested paying the revenue as per the Inam Act.
Rayanna opposed the Inan Act by refusing. An enraged Amaldar orders his arrest.
Under Amaldar's orders, the police take Rayanna into custody.
Villagers meet Rayanna in prison.

ಕಂದಾಯ ಕೊಡಲು ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮಳ ನಿರಾಕರಣೆ
ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಬಂಧನವಾದ ಸುದ್ದಿ ತಿಳಿದ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪ ತಳವಾರ ಫಕ್ಕೀರಪ್ಪನ ಮೂಲಕ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನ ತಾಯಿ ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮಳನ್ನು ಚಾವಡಿಗೆ ಕರೆಯಿಸಿದನು. ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಕಂದಾಯ ಕೊಡುವಂತೆ ಪೀಡಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆತನದ ಪೂರ್ವಜರು ಶೌರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಪಡೆದ ಇನಾಂ ಭೂಮಿಗಳ ಕಂದಾಯ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದಳು.

Kenchamma's refusal to pay revenue
After learning about Sangolli Rayanna's arrest at Sampagavi, Kulkarni Balappa ordered Talwara Fakkirappa to bring Kenchamma, Rayanna's mother. He harassed her to pay the revenue as per the Inam Act.
Kenchamma said that she would not pay the revenue as her ancestors' bravery had earned them the 'inam' (perquisite) land.

ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮಳಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ
ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ಪಂಚರ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಗೆ ವಿರೋಧ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪ ಸಿಟ್ಟುಗೊಂಡ, ಸುಂಕದ ಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಕರೆಯಿಸಿ ಅವಳ ಬೆನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುಂಕದ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೇರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವಮಾನಿಸಿದನು.ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆದರೂ ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮ ಇನಾಂ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಗೆ ವಿರೋಧ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

Punishment for Kenchamma
Kulkarni Balappa angry with Kenchamma for protesting against the Inam Act in the presence of Sangolli 'Panchas', called her to the toll booth, and insulted her by placing a toll stone on her back.

ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ಪಾರಾದ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ
ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆ ತಿಳಿದು. ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದನು.

ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿಗೆ ಜೀವದಾನ
ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗಿ ಬಂದ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಖಡ್ಗದಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೊಚ್ಚಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿಯ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಗಂಡನ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಉಳಿಸಲು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಇದು ತಿಳಿದು ಕೆಂಚಮ್ಮ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಧಾವಿಸಿ
ಮಗನನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿಯ ಹೆಂಡತಿಗೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

Rayanna forgives Kulkarni
Rayanna, who has broken free from prison, goes straight inside Kulkarni's home and assaults Balappa. as Rayanna was about to kill him with a sword. Kulkarni's wife begs him to spare her husband's life, Hearing this, Kenchamma rushes to Kulkarni's home and stops her son. She consoles Kulkarni's wife.

ಜಮೀನು ಮುಟ್ಟುಗೋಲು ವರದಿ
ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಬಾಳಪ್ಪ ತನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಬುದ್ದಿ ಕಲಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿ. ಕಂದಾಯ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದ ಇನಾಂ ಭೂಮಿ ಮುಟ್ಟುಗೋಲು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಪಗಾವ ಅಮಲ್ದಾರಗೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು.

Kulkarni Reports to Confiscate Rayanna's land
Sangolli Rayanna's attack on Kulkarni Balappa infuriates him. Kulkarni reports to Sampagavi Amaldar that 'Inam Land' of Rayanna should be confiscated because he has refused to pay taxes.
