We decided to take a look at Tinthani Mouneshwara Kshetra on the way back to Surpur from Deodurga. The temple is easy to locate, just after the bridge across river Krishna, a road on the right leads to the temple. The place was not crowded, we found a shady spot under the many Neem trees. The temple though old has been modernized. However, the lamp tower opposite the temple entrance seems original.

Deepastambha ~ the ancient oil lamp tower
A black stone tortoise adorns the floor of the the temple's main door. The door frame seems ancient.

Typical post Vijayanagara north Karnataka temple architecture has features of a mosque.

A painting within the temple area depicts of Jagadguru Mouneshwara with his temple in the background.

A board in Kannada gives out few incidents from Mouneshwara's life time. It is said that Mouneshwara's parents were Sheshappa and Sheshamma of Gonal village, about 8 kms north of Surpur town. Below is the transcription of the board-

A source on the net says that this shrine, besides being Mouneshwara's Samadhi is also the tomb of Hazrat Mouniddin, a Muslim saint. Since Mouneshwara had both Hindu and Muslim devotees, it is possible that the latter used the name Mouniddin.

Cubicle like spaces within the outer wall of the temple.

River Krishna is barely 100 meters from Mouneshwara temple. A concrete road is laid over the rocky bed. At the end of the path is a platform which is used like a coracle port.

It is misleading and misinformation about history of temple and calling Mouneshwara as Mounuddin. People are hiding the invasion of temple by Muslims of those in hisotry. I have studied the history of the place, above all my father worked in copper mines/factory in 70s. Many in the area from Shorapur, Kembhavi, Hunasgi, Gurgunti and Lingsugur have many evidences about what happened back in those years.

This post does not say Mouneshwara and Moinuddin were same. I agree about the Muslim rulers' oppressive ways towards Hindu people and Hindu temples.
