standing slabs of Araluguppe

Jan 27, 2023. As I drove down the road from Chennakeshava temple, about 80 meters from the temple gate, on the left hand side I saw this pair of standing slabs. As you see the slabs have been painted with white & ochre stripes, the same pattern seen on some temple walls.
These stones are definitely ancient, probably fixed a few centuries ago, possibly prehistoric too. I really don't know the significance of this. However, of you look closely, between the slabs is a pit in which is a small dark colored dome shaped stone. Flowers have been placed on the dark stone which means pooje has been performed. This seems to be an ancient shrine and stones probably are part of a shelter, the top slab could be missing.
Yesterday while at Nagalura, I had seen a somewhat similar pair of stones sans the paint work, also near Chennakeshava temple. Here's the link to Nagalapura's standing slabs. If you have any information of this stone please do share in the comments below.
